RCT and GOGI

GETTING OUT BY GOING IN (GOGI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and self empowerment of at risk and incarcerated individuals. GOGI employs clinically trained individuals in the administration of the GOGI curriculum.

Mission:

GETTING OUT BY GOING IN is dedicated to the education and empowerment of incarcerated and "at-risk" men, women and children.

Therapeutic Objective:

To assist individuals in achieving behavior change by helping them identity, accept, and appreciate their innate ability to overcome difficulties, resolve problems, and make positive choices.

Therapeutic Approach:

To achieve its therapeutic objectives, GOGI utilizes RapidChange Therapy (RCT), a goal-oriented, brief therapeutic approach.

The GOGI High School Project:
GOGI works directly with at risk youth attending Hillcrest High School in Inglewood, California. Behavioral change is promoted through the use of a "Therapeutic Classroom." The Project is staffed by Master's and doctoral level graduate students trained in RapidChange Therapy and supervised by a California licensed psychologist. Within the Therapeutic Classroom, GOGI coaches work one-on-one, in dyads or in small groups. They engage students in purposeful activity and therapeutic dialogue aimed at creating perceptual shifts - shifts of insight, awareness, and understanding essential for achieving behavioral change. As advocates, GOGI coaches also model effective communication skills and support each student's need for acceptance and validation.

The GOGI Prison Project:
The GOGI Prison Project promotes change through psycho-educational materials designed to educate and promote positive life choices. The Prison Project is based on six RapidChange Therapy techniques modified for incarcerated individuals.

The Project is staffed by Federal Corrections Institution (FCI) approved GOGI Coaches. Project materials are disseminated one-on-one, in dyads, in groups, lectures, and during three hour and six-week workshops. Additionally, after completing the program inmate project participants are given the opportunity to become Peer Coaches and teach RapidChange Therapy techniques to fellow inmates.

The GOGI Correspondence Courses:
In environments where classes or courses are not available, Materials in Prison: GETTING OUT BY GOING IN Freedom Before Release, offers RCT tools. Inmates are encouraged to experience self empowerment through experiential use of the tools.
